Our Purchasing Management Certificate is designed for those seeking professional development in the purchasing/supply chain field. A minimum of one year of experience is desirable but not necessary. This certificate is especially helpful to those who want to boost their careers in their organizations, such as associate buyers; production and inventory control personnel; transportation, distribution and non-purchasing executives; procurement managers; and engineers and managers with a purchasing-supplier interface. The purchasing/supply chain curriculum has been created with the assistance of an advisory board consisting of some of the country’s leading purchasing/supply chain professionals.

The purchasing/supply chain professional performs a wide range of job functions in the complex product procurement, service and manufacturing community, interfacing with all levels of management in a wide range of small to very large businesses. Professionals in the field of purchasing/supply chain management work as specialists in a role that demands in-depth knowledge of negotiation, contracts, legal ramifications, costs, markets, commodities, ethics, financial management, strategic planning, marketing and information systems.

Purchasing/supply chain professionals also comply with local, state and federal government regulations, participate in cost-reduction programs and coordinate the activities of their organizations with a broad range of suppliers. Some of the benefits of this program are increased knowledge of key tools for dealing with a broad range of people and functions, critical skill development and the confidence needed to advance one’s career. This program provides you with CEHs (Continuing Education Hours) toward recertification for your Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) certification, as required by the Institute of Supply Management (ISM). This course will also enhance your chances of passing the four modules of the CPM exam.

To earn a Boston University Corporate Education Center Purchasing Management Certificate, you must complete six of the following courses (three required and three elective) and pass the associated exams with a score of 70 percent or higher.
